Who we are. Cliffhanger English is made by Damien Herlihy, trading as Language Layouts, a sole trader in Queensland, Australia. These terms are the agreement between you and us when you use cliffhangerenglish.com and the Cliffhanger English reader.
What it is. Interactive stories for learning English, each written at five levels, with narration, meanings for words, and practice activities. This is an alpha: an early version, still being built. Things will change, and some things may not work perfectly yet.
Who it’s for. The stories are written for adults and older teens, aged 15 and over. They are fiction and include danger, death and grown-up themes. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms.
Free during the alpha. During the alpha, the whole story is free. You give us only your email address, and we give you a free alpha pass. We do not ask for a card, and you pay nothing. Before the alpha ends, or before anything costs money, we will tell you by email.
Your pass and your devices. There are no passwords. Your free alpha pass is linked to your email address. To use it on another browser or device, use Restore: we email you a link and a code. A pass works in up to five browsers at once. Please don’t share it beyond your own devices.
What belongs to whom. The stories, characters, artwork, audio and the name Cliffhanger English belong to us. You may read, listen and use them to learn. Please don’t copy, republish, sell or scrape them. Anything you record or write in the practice activities stays yours.
Using it fairly. Please don’t try to break, overload or get around the site, or use it to harm anyone. If you do, we can end your access, and we will tell you why.
If something goes wrong. We work to keep the site running, but we can’t promise it will never be unavailable. If we are at fault, what we owe you is limited to what you paid us in the last 12 months. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law, or under the consumer laws of the country you live in, that can’t be taken away.
Changes. We may update these terms. If a change affects your free alpha pass, we will email you first.
Which law applies. These terms are governed by the law of Queensland, Australia.
